Effective date: October 10, 2026

The Tabernanthe is a religious 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in California. This policy explains what information we collect through thetabernanthe.org and our conversations with you, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at info@thetabernanthe.org or 619-363-3207.

What we collect

When you contact us. Our contact form asks for your name, email address, phone number, the reason you’re reaching out, and any message you choose to write.

When you call or text us. If you call or text our phone number, we receive the number you are contacting us from, the time, and anything you say or write to us. We keep text conversations and call records so our team can follow up with you.

When you complete the prescreening questionnaire. The questionnaire asks for your name, contact details, date of birth, and how you heard about us. It also asks about your health and circumstances: the substances or conditions you’re seeking help with, your medical and mental health history, current medications, pregnancy, heart health, health insurance, your household income range, and what you’re able to contribute toward your participation. Some of these questions are optional, and several let you mark that you’re not comfortable answering at this time.

When you give. Donations are processed by PayPal. We receive your name, email address, and the amount of your gift. We do not receive or store your full card or bank details.

When you use the website. Like most websites, ours uses cookies and analytics tools that record things such as the pages you visit, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, and your approximate location based on your IP address. You can manage cookies through the consent banner on our site or your browser settings.

We use Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors use the site, for example which pages people open and where they click. Clarity may record anonymized sessions and heatmaps, and we set it to hide all text on the screen. We do not use it on our prescreening form or instructions page. Clarity is operated by Microsoft; you can read how it handles data in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

How we use it

We use your information to respond to you, to understand your situation before a conversation with our team, to decide whether an introduction to one of our independent partner providers may be appropriate, to coordinate scholarships, to process donations and send receipts, and to understand how people use our website so we can improve it. We may also use information when the law requires it.

Your health information

The Tabernanthe is not a medical provider, and our prescreening questionnaire is not a medical evaluation. We still treat everything you tell us about your health as confidential.

Prescreening answers are sent by email to the small team that handles intake. They are not stored in our website’s database. We keep intake records in a secure contact management system that only our intake team can access.

We share your health information with a partner provider only if you decide to move forward with an introduction, and only what that provider needs to evaluate you.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

We share information only in these situations:

Phone calls and text messages

We use Quo, a business phone service, for our phone number, calls and text messages. Quo and the mobile carriers that deliver messages handle your calls and texts for us. Our team and the software tools we use, including AI-assisted tools, may read your messages and help draft replies. A member of our team reviews a reply before it is sent. If we record or transcribe a call, we will tell you at the start of the call.

We text you to answer your questions or follow up on something you asked about, such as scheduling and logistics. We do not send marketing texts without your separate permission. When you give us your mobile number, you agree that we may text you about your inquiry. Consent to texts is not a condition of getting help from us, and you can ask us to use email or phone calls instead.

We do not sell mobile phone numbers or text messaging consent, and we do not share them with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help. You can also email info@thetabernanthe.org and ask us to stop.

Text messages are not a private way to communicate. Please keep detailed health information out of texts. We may ask you to share it on a call or through our questionnaire instead.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as we need it for the purposes above, and then delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner.

Your choices

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing info@thetabernanthe.org. You can also ask us to stop contacting you at any time. We’ll respond within a reasonable time.

Our website does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information and limit who can see it. No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Age requirement

Our services are for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
