Life After Ibogaine: What the First 90 Days Can Look Like
Practical steps for the weeks and months after treatment.
Why the first 90 days matter
The day of treatment gets most of the attention. But people we talk with at The Tabernanthe often say the harder part comes afterward, back at home, at work and with the people they love. This guide lays out what the first 90 days can look like. It is general information, not medical advice, and everyone's experience is different.
The first few days
Expect to be tired. Sleep, appetite and mood are often unsettled. Rest, drink water and eat regular meals. Stay close to people you trust, and try not to be alone for long stretches. Follow every instruction from your provider about medications, activity and follow-up, and keep your plans small.
Ibogaine can affect heart rhythm, and serious heart problems have been reported in connection with it. Chest pain, fainting, a racing or irregular heartbeat, or trouble breathing need emergency care. Call 911.
Weeks one to four
This is often when people feel pulled between the new and the familiar. You may feel clearer, and you may also feel emotional, restless or flat. All of this is common. A few things help.
- Keep a daily rhythm of regular wake-up, meals, movement and bedtime.
- Check in regularly with someone who knows what you are going through.
- Give your thoughts somewhere to go, such as a journal, a walk or a conversation.
- Avoid the people, places and routines tied to past use where you can.

Months two and three
As the intensity fades, daily life takes over. Old stresses return and new habits get tested. Keep the routines that were working, even when you feel fine. Add support instead of dropping it, and reach out before a hard day, not after. Plan for known hard moments such as holidays, work events and payday. If cravings or low mood grow, tell someone you trust.
If you slip, your progress does not disappear. Read what to do if you slip.
Who to call
Your treatment provider is the right contact for medical questions. For everything else, The Tabernanthe provides a safe, caring environment for ibogaine aftercare, and it can be at no cost to you, depending on your situation. If you were treated elsewhere, see support after treatment.
If you are in crisis, call or text 988. For a medical emergency, call 911. Aftercare does not replace medical care. For a medical concern, contact your provider or your doctor.
