Sleep After Ibogaine: What Is Normal and What Helps

Simple habits for the nights after treatment.

Why sleep can feel strange

Many people tell us their sleep changes after ibogaine care. Some sleep very little for a while, some sleep more than usual, and some have vivid dreams. This guide covers what people commonly report and what usually helps. It is general information, not medical advice, and your provider's instructions come first.

What people commonly notice

People often report trouble falling asleep or waking in the night, feeling tired but wired, very vivid dreams, or needing extra rest during the day. For most people these changes ease with time. How long that takes varies, and we cannot predict yours.

Habits that help

  • Get up at the same time every day, even after a poor night.
  • Get daylight and some gentle movement. A morning walk helps more than people expect.
  • Wind down before bed with dim lights and no screens.
  • Keep the bedroom cool, dark and quiet.
  • Eat regular meals and drink water through the day.
  • If your mind races, write your worries on paper before bed.

What to avoid

Skip alcohol and non-prescribed substances. They tend to make sleep worse and they put your recovery at risk. Avoid late caffeine. Do not take sleep aids, supplements or other medications unless your provider or doctor has approved them, and never start or stop a medication on your own.

When to check in with someone

Contact your provider or doctor if you are barely sleeping for several nights, or if you feel confused or very agitated. If poor sleep brings dark thoughts, call or text 988 right away.

Ibogaine can affect heart rhythm, and serious heart problems have been reported in connection with it. Chest pain, fainting, a racing or irregular heartbeat, or trouble breathing need emergency care. Call 911.
