Depression and Anxiety After Ibogaine: What To Do
Hard feelings after treatment are common. You do not have to carry them alone.
Why low mood or anxiety can show up
After ibogaine care, many people expect to feel better right away. Some do. Others find that low mood, worry or tears show up in the weeks that follow, which can be confusing if you expected relief. This guide is general information, not medical advice. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 now.
Why it happens
We cannot say exactly why it happens for each person, but a few reasons are likely. Treatment can bring up memories and emotions that were pushed down for years. Sleep and routine may be disrupted. Money, relationships and work are all still there. And when a substance that used to numb feelings is gone, the feelings can come back at full volume.
When it is common and when it is a concern
Sadness, irritability, anxiety, crying, restlessness and feeling flat for a while are often part of adjusting. Reach out for help quickly if low mood is getting deeper or is not easing over several weeks, if you cannot function at home or work, if you are barely eating or sleeping, if you feel hopeless, or if you have any thoughts of harming yourself. Call or text 988 for thoughts of self-harm. Call 911 for chest pain, fainting, a racing or irregular heartbeat, or trouble breathing.

- Talk to a trusted person, a counselor or a peer who understands.
